'Tis the season of Gratitude… and Vigilance

'Tis the season of Gratitude… and Vigilance

Gratitude

Thanksgiving has a way of reminding us of what truly matters if we slow down long enough to notice. With the busyness of our day to day lives, it’s easy to overlook the many blessings that surround us.

The journey of life is always a mixed bag. Gratitude doesn’t mean ignoring difficulties or pretending everything is perfect. Challenges are an ever present part of this journey, often relegating joy and satisfaction to the backburner. Yet, the good in life is there if you intentionally carve out time to seek it. Though Thanksgiving reminds us to be grateful, embracing gratitude shouldn’t be limited to the holiday.

Vigilance

Recently, an investment company that we work with required votes from their shareholders to pursue some important operational initiatives. This isn’t an unusual occurrence in this industry, but it is not something most investors would encounter frequently. A significant number of recipients promptly reached out to us to confirm that the correspondence was legitimate – cautious that it might be a scam.

Many things ramp up during the holidays – including scams. Anytime an unsolicited call to action comes your way from a product or service provider, caution is warranted. In this case, the correspondence was legitimate. However, in the last 6 months I have personally been made aware of attempted scams on an elderly relative as well as a working age professional.

The point is that it’s imperative to always be cautious and protect yourselves. Proactively discuss this topic with your family (parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren). While we were profoundly encouraged by the number of people that questioned this correspondence, there is more work to be done.

This may fall outside typical holiday themes, but it’s too significant to ignore. The proverb ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’ seems especially apt here. Awareness will foster caution – caution will generate questions – and those questions will help expose nefarious intentions. Remain vigilant!

Gratitude Revisited

I want to conclude by expressing my gratitude – I am so fortunate to help others live their best lives. Thank you for the privilege to know and work with you. Thank you for reaching out when you have questions or concerns. Thank you for taking our advice and for being a patient investor... I know it’s not always easy. And lastly, thank you for choosing Guided Path Wealth Management as your trusted partner on this journey.

Happy Thanksgiving!
